Sustainable and environmentally responsible approaches increasingly figure prominently in the projects Calco undertakes with its clients. A notable case in point is the ongoing programme of improvements to the University of Liverpool campus. The previously unremarkable entrance to the School of Veterinary Science building has been transformed using tree planting, glacial boulders and bird and bat box bricks to create an enriched environment for people and wildlife alike.
As well as reducing stress through contact with green space the improvements carried out by Calco bring with them many and varied environmental benefits. These include supporting local native flora and fauna to thrive, attracting pollinators, reduced flood risk and improved water quality. Helping to promote such net gains in biodiversity reflects the changes and challenges that Calco as a business looks to embrace.
Pride in Our Work
The images below provide an excellent illustration of the diversity of approach Calco can bring to bear in creating a more attractive built environment. As part of the long-term programme of improvements on behalf of the University of Liverpool, another of Calco’s recent projects was the installation of a rainbow crossing and learning pods around the George Holt and Sherrington buildings. A bright and attractive pathway to success in learning !
