On Saturday 24th June, we attended the rededication service for Northenden War Memorial following the 
refurbishment of the hard landscaping. Working with designer Jane Leach of iArchitect and Quantity Surveyor, Construction Q, Calco undertook works to the memorial including provision of a new level access path to allow those with reduced mobility to access the raised level of the memorial.
Calco also lifted and relaid the existing hardstanding and surrounding edgings including exposing areas that had become overgrown. With the memorial having listed consent, materials specification presented a number of challenges including working with lime mortar and ensuring any new surface was SUDS compliant. The installation of a new land drain and soakaway have been included to ensure the memorial is accessible whatever the weather.
The front wall has been partially rebuilt with a reclaimed coping add
ed to tie the new works in with the existing, and finally two new natural stone steps have been added to improve overall access and the ongoing aesthetic of the memorial.
The full rededication service has formally re-opened the memorial and was followed by an armed forces fun day.
